Automobile Technician Job Responsibilities: While observing highest industry standards and practices, Inspect, diagnose, repair, install, service, different systems and equipment for worn, broken, failed, damaged or dysfunctional parts and address drivability complaints. Effectively communicate an accurate time, effort, part estimate for repair to Service Advisor or Shop Manager.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment to prevent accidents
- Follow shop process and procedures for handling of repair orders
- Inspect customer vehicle at drop off by use of DVI tablet
- Diagnostic testing of vehicles and completing preventive maintenance such as engine tune-ups, oil changes, and tire rotations.
- Maintains vehicles’ functional condition by listening to operator complaints and conducting inspections.
- Properly document the condition of a vehicle at the point of intake
- Ensure vehicle is safely and securely positioned on lift for diagnostics
- Perform all assigned points of inspection
- Faithfully report condition of vehicle parts
- Determine priority of repair
- Consult with the Service Manager to complete an estimate for the customer
- Maintain a personal complement of tools to be used to service vehicles
- Keep detailed logs of all parts, fluids and hours associated with each projec
- Recommend solutions and communicate customer service opportunities.
- Repairs mechanical and electrical system malfunctions and recommending parts and components.
- Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives, adjusting controls, and updating systems.
- Read and interpret diagrams, schematics and manufacturers instructions.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
- Accomplishes maintenance and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

- Automobile Technician Qualifications and Skills
- Knowledge of technical and mechanical procedures
- Strong reading skills and understanding of service bulletins and diagrams
- Understanding of OBD 1, OBD 2 and other diagnostic systems
- Understanding of the operation of standard shop machines (Tire Machine, Balancer, lift, etc.)
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Great attention to detail
- Excellent hand-eye coordination with mechanic
- Strong communication skills
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma /GED equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years in the Automotive industry
